Changing Climates

Changing Climates is an educational tool designed to visualize species endangerment in the American Southwest. Through an intuitive color-coding system, the app communicates the severity of threat levels across different species, making environmental data accessible to users of all ages and learning needs. While the app is co-designed alongside an immersive spatial installation for museum settings, it functions independently and can be used remotely and asynchronously expanding access to climate education beyond physical spaces. This project was co-designed with Leah Tatu and Alexis Boone.

The branding for Changing Climates uses a vibrant, nature-inspired color palette to communicate urgency and ecological impact. Instead of defaulting to standard red-yellow-green scales, we developed a custom system: green represents mild concern, blue signals a moderate threat, and orange indicates severe endangerment. These colors not only reflect tones found in natural environments, but also aim to create an intuitive emotional response, helping users quickly grasp the stakes while staying engaged across age groups and learning styles.
